fuckyeahstrangemythology: #2: Xelhua A giant from Aztec mythology. He was one of seven giants to escape the first flood. He climbed the mountain of Tlaloc, rain god, and escaped death. Then to give thanks to the god, he built the Great Pyramid of Cholula in the Mexican state of Puebla which was used as both a burial ground and a temple of worship. The name Cholula means “place of refuge”. Today the Pyramid is the largest archagoecial site of a pyramid/temple in the Americas and one of the largest pyramids in the world. Not to mention this temple has a Catholic church built on top of it, which I find kind of interesting.
